Company French Broadcaster

BACKGROUND

Founded in 1995, CVS Engineering specializes in the design, engineering, production and commissioning of Audiovisual Systems applied to the professional and institutional world. In 2009, CVS Engineering expanded its offering with a new activity related to Audiovisual Signal Transmission. Bringing more than 20 years of experience as a system integrator in the specific field of Broadcast Audiovisual Systems, CVS, along with its trusted partner (Black Box) consulted with a major French broadcasting company to streamline its control room operations with virtual machines (VMs) technology.

CHALLENGE

A prominent public French broadcaster, operating 8 TV channels and multiple studios with 6 production control rooms, faced the challenge of modernizing their digital infrastructure. The broadcaster needed a solution that seamlessly integrated both physical and virtual machines, while also providing robust remote access via IP. To find the best solution, they opened a tender, which was awarded to their trusted integrator, CVS, known for their longstanding relationship with Black Box®.

SOLUTION

The broadcaster and CVS selected the Emerald® IP KVM system from Black Box as the cornerstone of their new digital infrastructure. This choice was driven by Emerald’s superior capability to integrate virtual machine access effortlessly. The system’s design, which eliminates single points of failure, guarantees fail-safe operation. Additionally, the system management was configured as a redundant cluster, enhancing reliability.

Because it is IP-based, the Emerald system is inherently scalable, allowing the broadcaster to add additional endpoints as needed. Today, the system connects over 150 endpoints, including remote users, administrators, and various systems, both physical and virtual.

To further enhance their setup, the broadcaster recently incorporated the new Emerald DESKVUE receiver. This innovative addition provides users with a customized workspace, enabling simultaneous access to up to 16 systems with multiview capabilities across four 4K desktop screens and a 2x2 video wall.

RESULTS

The implementation of the Emerald system has been a resounding success for the broadcaster. It effectively integrates remote users, various locations, distributed systems, and a complex visualization landscape into a unified platform. The system’s ability to access virtual machines without needing additional transmitters has significantly reduced the total cost of ownership (TCO) and simplified device management.

Emerald’s user-centric design ensures that operators can seamlessly switch between physical and virtual machines, allowing them to focus on their tasks without being concerned about the underlying infrastructure. This streamlined workflow has greatly enhanced operational efficiency and user satisfaction.

The partnership between the French broadcaster, CVS, and Black Box has resulted in a state-of-the-art digital infrastructure that meets current needs and is scalable for future demands. The Emerald IP KVM system stands out as a reliable, scalable, and user-friendly solution, ensuring that the broadcaster remains at the forefront of technological innovation in the media industry.
